Denizli and Pamukkale in 3 Days by Rental Car

With three days in Denizli and your own car, you can see the best of the region at a relaxed pace. A day-by-day plan from the travertines to ancient cities and turquoise Lake Salda.
Most visitors stop in Denizli only for Pamukkale. Yet with your own car, ancient cities, thermal villages and a turquoise lake are all within about an hour’s drive. Here is a plan for seeing the best of the region in three days with a rental car. If you are flying in, you can collect your car right at Denizli Çardak Airport.
Day 1: Laodicea, Pamukkale and Karahayıt
- Morning — Laodicea: Walk the colonnaded street and theatres of this large ancient city about 6 km from Denizli centre. See our Laodicea guide for details.
- Afternoon — Hierapolis and the travertines: Pamukkale is a 15–20 minute drive from Laodicea. Tour the ancient city, walk down the travertines and watch the sunset on the white terraces. Read our Pamukkale and Hierapolis day trip for the route.
- Evening — Karahayıt: This thermal village a few kilometres north of Pamukkale is known for its iron-rich red springs. A good choice for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Aphrodisias
Set off early: Aphrodisias is about 100 km from Denizli centre, a 1.5–2 hour drive. Highlights of this UNESCO World Heritage Site include the stadium, the Tetrapylon and the sculptures in the museum. Take the drive back slowly, as some sections are winding. Details: Aphrodisias day trip.
Day 3: Lake Salda
With its white shores and turquoise water, Lake Salda, often called “the Maldives of Türkiye”, is 1–1.5 hours from Denizli. The lake is a specially protected area, so follow the site rules and stay on marked paths. Details: Lake Salda day trip.
If your flight is in the evening, you can drive straight from Salda to Çardak Airport and return your car there; check the driving time in your navigation app before you set off.
